Well, here goes. My rather long winded review of a day at Fan Expo Canada with photos! After seeing all the hoopla at Comic Con San Diego over the years, and this year in particular because of "Lost Girl", I decided to buy a one day pass online. I thought I knew what to expect--but there were definitely a few surprises in store. To avoid traffic, I took the Go train from Guildwood station after driving in from Brooklin. I got the 9:13 am train and it was packed. The Ex, the Blue Jays and Jack Layton were obviously increasing traffic to downtown. I'd planned on getting to the convention center around 10am and just walk in. WRONG! First I had to hand in my printed off internet ticket and exchange it for another ticket. Why??? Then had to walk from the North building to the south building where we were herded like cattle heading for slaughter. We were stuck in a glassed in overpass and sweated like pigs (do pigs sweat?) for about 30 minutes. Then it was down multiple escalators and more lines until I found level 700 (and why is level 800 below that?). By this time, I realized I wasn't wearing a watch and started to panic. Was I going to make it in time for the 11:30 Lost Girl panel!!?? I only had to ask 1 person (go me!) for directions to 718 and settled in to wait for the panel. I managed to snag a 3rd row seat, dead center. Fan Expo Canada fans are great. No really. Such a friendly bunch. No judgement that one may be on the north side of 40 and attending such an event. Everyone chats to everyone. The day really flew by because of these great fans. Lots of laughs. The panel was moderated by Melissa at Televixen.com. Anna Silk (Bo), Kris Holden-Ried (Dyson), Rick Howland (Trick), Zoie Palmer (Lauren), K. C. Collins (Hale) and Ksenia Solo (Kenzi) all attended. I did see Seth Cooperman (Anna's spouse) hanging around, as well as some other "Significant others" I had hoped there'd have been more of an intro. Some background on the show (video?), talking about the expanded season 2, the pickups by SyFY around the globe, etc I'd also have loved to hear about the initial casting, dvd's, etc. Maybe next year?? I'm a total geek for any of this sort of info and I'm sure at a place like Fan Expo I'm not the only one. The panel could have run longer!

I didn't take notes at the panel, so here are some random memories. --they joke around A LOT and have great chemistry --Zoie Palmer in particular makes Anna Silk laugh--Anna said that Zoie can then be all serious in a scene, while Anna takes longer to collect herself --Kris does a wicked Scottish accent and says he lapses into it when drinking --when asked to re-enact some season 2 scenes, Rick stood up and started wiping the desk as if it was his bar! very funny! --no spoilers, but they hinted that as per the teaser trailer "something wicked this way comes"! --Anna said that this season she is more focussed on protecting her new family rather than finding her lost one --Anna and Kris train a lot to stay in shape--Anna said that shooting their first ep back, Kris is shirtless and he is in GREAT shape again! --Ksenia says she trains by eating cheeseburgers (I doubt it, girl is stick thin) and K. C. does mouth exercises (he's a siren !) LOL --Kris joked that he gets asked how Gwyneth and the kids are (a comment on how much he looks like Chris Martin of Coldplay) --Anna now lives in L. A. and was astounded when she was recognized sitting in a cafe there! As I think of more, I'll add.

The panel then opened to audience questions. At this time many people left to get in line for the autograph session. I wish I had as well, because the line got crazy!!! I think only about 4 or 5 people got to ask questions. The most fun was a guy in costume (as what, I don't know?). He claimed he'd been an extra on Kris' film "K19 The Widowmaker". LOL It took me about 10 minutes to find the autograph line down on level 800. It was tucked in the corner of the room. There were a number of tables, each with its own line. The Lost Girl line spilled out of there and wrapped out to the corner of the room. We were doubling and tripling up on the line and it got very confusing, with a lot of people butting in, etc. Not the best fan behaviour! About an hour into the wait, they closed off the line. I was glad to have made the cut, but felt bad for fans missing out. As it was I waited over 2 hours and there were many behind me. I'm sure the cast was there for about 3 hours. They must have been exhausted. After 90 mins or so, we were in the proper line and heading down towards the signing table. We'd be in line, but at least able to see some action. At this point Kris Holden-Ried stood on a chair (I think) and announced that he had to leave for a surprise party for his Mom. The crowd let out a collective moan. To be very honest, I was so disappointed. I likely wouldn't have come down at all if I'd known there was no chance to see Kris. He's a huge part of the show for me and likely for a lot of other people. As luck would have it, the line had moved to a point where Kris was standing just inches from me. He was graciously signing as many things as he could before leaving and taking quick photos. I had come armed with a calendar I'd made of screen captures from season one. Very Dyson-centric. Another fan in line told me to wave the calendar and call out to Kris, so I did. I passed it to him and he started to sign, but this other fan told Kris that I'd made it and it was a special item. At this point Kris put everything he had in his hands down and took the time to ask my name, say thanks and sign the calendar. He even posed for a photo! I was really impresssed and so grateful. Thanks Kris!

I was pooped, but decided I should look around a bit before leaving. Loved the Lost Girl Booth (note the random guy to the left in Star Trek costume!) Real Steel with Hugh Jackman coming out soon and this is one of the robots! Stormtroopers in da house!

I then walked over to the celebrity autograph area. Was anyone else creeped out by this? It was so sad. Celebrities charging for photos and autographs!! I felt sorry for those without lineups. It was like some weird popularity contest. Tacky, very tacky. As much as I would have loved to say something to Malcolm McDowell (a big crush since his Clockwork Orange days), I didn't want to 'buy' his attention. Same goes for Lance Henrikson and Michael Biehn. It was sad to see John Astin looking so old and frail. I hope he enjoyed himself. Luckily his line was quite long!

Hey! Thanks so much for sharing your experience at Fan Expo. And the pictures!!! They're awesome! Ksenia looked so damn hot in that dress, it was ridiculous.
I went for three days that Expo. Friday Sat and Sun. The panel was pretty fun. Loved Rick's "hint to what's gonna happen in next season" joke. Also Zoie was so funny! I didn't really expect it because her character isn't at all like her. Serves me right for confusing actor with character. D'oh!
I didn't get to the autograph session. By the time i got there the line was already closed off. Guess there's always next year!
Funny part was that on Sunday morning K.C. came by again and signed at the Lost Girl booth for an hour and a half. Of course i find out that he'd be there when i was still on my way to the metro center. When i got there i practically RAN to the booth and got there just in time to see him leave. Guess there's always next year! lol
I'm really not happy when "celebrities" ask to get paid for the autographs. Especially when it costs $60-$100. I wanted to meet Eliza Dushku and Michael Shanks buuut didn't feel like paying for it. Oh well.
Otherwise i love FanExpo. People are nice in general. Lots of cool things to see and do .... also ya know, spend stupid amounts of money haha
